Buick Engines

"The time to hesitate is through"

If there is one area where the Buick motor excells it is the production of low RPM torque. In fact, Buick lays claim to the highest torque output of ANY motor during the musclecar wars of the 60s at 510 ft. lbs.!

This was obviously a fact recognized by the engineers at Kaiser, who used the Buick 350 and the 225 V6 in their products.

When the Buick engineers designed the 350 and the 455, the very first thing they considered was the intended RPM range. They designed the motors for use in big boat-like passenger cars which needed lots of torque to get off the line, and which would most likely not be seeing the upper side of 5500 RPMs. The end result lends itself perfectly for use in truck applications.

The specs for the '68/69 Buick 350 are:
275 max HP and 375(!)ft lbs. @ 3200 RPM

I doubt that the figures increased in '70 as the 350 GSs did since Buick probably sold Kaiser and AMC thier excess 350s and saved the rambunctious units for themselves. However, 10:1 pistons and a Lunati or TA Performance cam can change all of that for your truck's 350!

Luckily for J truck owners, the following that the Buick GS enjoys has led to the development of a complete line of Buick performance products.

This is a good jump point for Buick parts and info.

Also coming soon a 455 build-up for my '78 J20, "Mr. Beef".
